Magazine advert Conventions

The functions of a magazine advert are to be able to sell a product which is the music artist. it is used to sell the song or the album that it is promoting. these need to be eye catching to make sure that the viewer knows who it is and the style that they are portraying.

A magazine advert needs to include the following features as a minimum:
  • The release date - this is allowing the audience to see when the album is coming out for the general public

  • Album or song title - this is used to show the title of the album allowing the viewer to know what to look for when buying

  • Image relating to artist or album - the image is important because this is the main feature that will be seen first this needs to be in relation to the song so the viewer has an understanding of what the style and who the artist is.

  • Artists name - this needs to be done in a bold way to show directly who the artist is this is the main feature that will promote them

  • Information about the album - by including info about the album this means that the viewer can develop an understanding of the genre and the track list features could be included in this

  • Where it is available to buy - this is one of the most important features of the advert this is the part the tells the viewer when they can buy it 'release date'

  • Record label logo - by including a record label logo this gives the viewer an idea of the style of music that they make allowing them to get an understanding of what music they make.
